Medicare Plan G coverage chart 2027 showing what Plan G pays and what you pay

Medicare Plan G Coverage Chart 2027

Plan G benefits are standardized by federal law. Every insurance company that sells Plan G must cover the same nine benefits, so this chart applies no matter which company you choose.

Benefit Plan G pays
Part A deductible 100%
Part A hospital coinsurance, plus 365 extra hospital days 100%
Part B coinsurance or copays 100%
Part B excess charges 100%
Skilled nursing facility coinsurance 100%
Part A hospice coinsurance 100%
First 3 pints of blood 100%
Foreign travel emergency care 80% after $250 deductible, up to $50,000 lifetime
Part B deductible Not covered — you pay it

Massachusetts, Minnesota and Wisconsin use their own standardized plan designs, so Plan G works differently in those three states.

What Plan G Covers, Explained

Hospital stays (Part A). Plan G pays the Part A deductible for each benefit period and all Part A hospital coinsurance. It also adds 365 extra lifetime hospital days after Medicare’s coverage runs out.

Doctor visits and outpatient care (Part B). After you meet the Part B deductible, Plan G pays the 20% coinsurance Medicare leaves you. That includes doctor visits, surgery, lab work, imaging, durable medical equipment and outpatient therapy.

Part B excess charges. Doctors who don’t accept Medicare’s approved amount as full payment can charge up to 15% more. Plan G pays that too.

Skilled nursing and hospice. Plan G pays the skilled nursing facility coinsurance for days 21 through 100 and the hospice coinsurance for drugs and respite care.

Travel. Plan G works with any doctor or hospital in the U.S. that accepts Medicare, and it pays 80% of emergency care during the first 60 days of a trip abroad, after a $250 deductible, up to a $50,000 lifetime limit.
