Medicare Plan G Deductible 2027: What You Pay Before Plan G Pays

Reviewed by Russell Noga, Licensed Medicare Insurance Broker (all 50 states) — Last updated October 12, 2026

Plan G has one deductible, and it isn’t set by your insurance company. It’s the Medicare Part B deductible, which was $283 in 2026. Once you pay it, Plan G pays 100% of your Medicare-approved costs for the rest of the year.

CMS announces the 2027 Part B deductible each fall, usually in November. Whatever that number is becomes the Plan G deductible for 2027, on every Medicare Supplement Plan G from every company.

Medicare Plan G deductible 2027 history showing the Part B deductible from 2023 to 2026

The Plan G Deductible for 2027

Because the Plan G deductible is the Part B deductible, it rises when Medicare raises Part B. Here’s how it has moved:

Year Plan G Deductible Change
2023 $226 —
2024 $240 +$14
2025 $257 +$17
2026 $283 +$26
2027 Announced by CMS in fall 2026 We’ll update this page

You pay the deductible once per calendar year. It resets every January 1, no matter how many doctor visits or services you used the year before.

What Plan G Pays After the Deductible

Once the Part B deductible is met, Plan G covers the rest of your Medicare-approved costs in full, including:

  • The Part A hospital deductible, which was $1,736 per benefit period in 2026.
  • Part B coinsurance, the 20% Original Medicare leaves you for doctor visits, tests and outpatient care.
  • Part B excess charges from doctors who don’t accept Medicare assignment.
  • Skilled nursing, hospice and blood coinsurance.
  • Foreign travel emergencies at 80%, after a $250 deductible, up to plan limits.

That’s why the Part B deductible is the most you’ll pay out of pocket for Medicare-covered care with Plan G, outside your premium.

Plan G deductible vs High Deductible Plan G deductible for 2027 compared

High Deductible Plan G Deductible for 2027

High Deductible Plan G works differently. You pay all Medicare-covered costs, Part A and Part B, until you reach the plan’s yearly deductible. After that, it pays exactly what regular Plan G pays.

CONFIRMED BY CMS

The 2027 High Deductible Plan G deductible is $3,050, up from $2,950 in 2026. It takes effect January 1, 2027.

Plan G High Deductible Plan G
2026 deductible $283 (Part B only) $2,950 (Part A and Part B)
2027 deductible Set by CMS in fall 2026 $3,050
Monthly premium Higher Much lower
After the deductible Pays covered costs in full Pays covered costs in full

The High Deductible Plan G deductible has climbed from $2,700 in 2023 to $2,800 in 2024, $2,870 in 2025, $2,950 in 2026 and $3,050 for 2027.

For the full breakdown of how it works, what it costs and who it fits, see our guide to High Deductible Plan G for 2027.

Plan G vs Plan N Deductible

Plan G and Plan N have the same deductible: the Part B deductible. The difference comes after it. Plan N adds copays of up to $20 for some office visits and up to $50 for ER visits that don’t result in admission, and it doesn’t cover Part B excess charges.

In exchange, Plan N usually has a lower premium. See our Medicare Supplement Plan N 2027 guide to see whether the savings outweigh the copays for you, or compare every letter on our Medicare Supplement plans comparison chart for 2027.

How to Budget for the Plan G Deductible in 2027

Your realistic yearly cost with Plan G is twelve months of premium plus the Part B deductible. Using 2026 numbers, a $180 monthly premium plus the $283 deductible comes to about $2,443 for the year, and that’s close to your worst case for Medicare-covered care.

The deductible is the same with every company, so the premium is where you save. Plan G premiums vary widely by carrier, state, age and ZIP code. See our full breakdown of Medicare Supplement Plan G cost in 2027.

Before You Enroll: 2027 Checklist

  1. Budget for the Part B deductible. It’s the only deductible on Plan G.
  2. Decide between Plan G and High Deductible G. Lower premium or lower deductible.
  3. Compare the same letter across carriers. The deductible is identical, so price is the difference.
  4. Ask about the pricing method. Attained-age, issue-age and community-rated policies age very differently.
  5. Check your timing. Your Medigap Open Enrollment Period gives you guaranteed acceptance.
  6. Add a Part D plan. Compare all Medicare Supplement plans for 2027 alongside your drug coverage.
