State Farm Medicare Supplement Plans 2027: Agents, Plan Letters and Rating

Reviewed by Russell Noga, Licensed Medicare Insurance Broker (all 50 states) — Last updated October 30, 2026

State Farm Medicare Supplement plans are issued by State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Company and are sold only through State Farm agents. Most states get Plans A, D, G and N (plus C and F for people eligible for Medicare before 2020), and the issuing company holds an A+ (Superior) rating from AM Best.

Most people know State Farm for car and home insurance. Fewer know it also sells Medicare Supplement coverage through its neighborhood agents, and only through them. You can’t buy these plans from an independent broker or a quote website.

Below: who backs the policy, which plan letters State Farm sells, where it doesn’t sell, and how it lines up with two other carriers. Still choosing a plan letter? Start with our Medicare Supplement Plan G 2027 guide.

Who Backs a State Farm Medicare Supplement Policy

State Farm Medicare Supplement 2027 at a glance: issuer, AM Best rating, sales channel and plan letters

State Farm’s own state pages name the issuer: State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Company of Bloomington, Illinois, the same mutual company that writes State Farm car insurance. There is no separate health subsidiary on your policy.

In November 2025, AM Best lowered State Farm’s financial strength rating from A++ (Superior) to A+ (Superior), with a stable outlook. The reasons were high auto and homeowners losses, heavy weather damage and a tough regulatory climate, not Medicare Supplement claims. AM Best said the balance sheet stayed at its strongest level.

Issuer on the policy. State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Company, Bloomington, Illinois.

Rating today. A+ (Superior) from AM Best, stable outlook, after the November 2025 action.

What the downgrade means for you. A+ is still AM Best’s second-highest grade. Your benefits are set by law and do not change with the rating.

Plan Letters State Farm Sells, and the Ones It Skips

State Farm’s benefit charts for states such as Georgia and Colorado list Plans A, C, D, F, G and N. Some reviewers also report Plan B in certain states. State Farm does not sell Plans K, L or M, and we did not find a high-deductible Plan G on its state pages.

Plan Your share in 2027 Can you buy it?
Plan G The Part B deductible (projected $292), then $0 for covered care Yes, in most states State Farm serves
Plan N Part B deductible, up to $20 for some office visits, up to $50 for ER visits that don’t lead to admission Yes, in most states
Plan D Part B deductible and Part B excess charges Yes, in most states
Plan A Part A deductible ($1,736 in 2026), Part B deductible and more Yes
Plans C and F Little or nothing for covered care Only if you were eligible for Medicare before 2020

Plan list from State Farm’s Georgia and Colorado benefit charts. The 2027 Part B deductible is the Trustees projection; CMS sets the final figure in November.

Minnesota and Wisconsin: These states use their own plan designs. State Farm sells a Basic Plan, Extended Basic Plans and a $20/$50 copay plan in Minnesota, and a Basic policy with add-on riders in Wisconsin.

Why You Have to Buy Through a State Farm Agent

You can start a quote on State Farm’s website, but every state page says the same thing: finishing an application “will require contact with a State Farm agent/licensed insurance producer.” State Farm agents work only for State Farm. That means an independent broker who shows you five carriers at once usually cannot include State Farm in the lineup.

Upside: a local office. Your agent may already handle your car or home policy, so billing questions go to someone you know.

Downside: one company only. A State Farm agent quotes State Farm. You have to gather other carriers’ prices on your own.

Not sold everywhere. State Farm’s site says its agents do not market these plans in New York or New Jersey. A 2026 NerdWallet review adds Connecticut, Massachusetts and Rhode Island.

Under 65? State Farm says coverage is available in some states for people on Medicare because of a disability or End-Stage Renal Disease.

State Farm Next to Mutual of Omaha and Medico

Buying a State Farm Medicare Supplement plan through a State Farm agent compared with an independent broker

No single source lines these three carriers up, so we built this table from State Farm’s state pages, AM Best releases and the facts we verified for our other carrier reviews. Plan G benefits are identical at all three.

Feature State Farm Mutual of Omaha Medico (Wellabe)
How you buy State Farm agents only Licensed agents Licensed agents; no direct online quotes
AM Best rating A+ (Superior) A+ (Superior) A (Excellent)
Main plan letters A, D, G, N (C, F if eligible before 2020) A, F, G, N; high-deductible F and G in some states A, F, G, N and both high-deductible plans
Household discount None advertised 7% or 12%, by state Yes, if you live with someone 50+

Extras None advertised Mutually Well wellness discounts Dental rider in six states

Availability and discounts change by state. Confirm every row on your own quote.

The missing household discount is the biggest gap. Couples who would get 7% to 12% off elsewhere should compare final prices, not base rates. Our full Mutual of Omaha Medicare Supplement review covers its discount rules.

What State Farm's Own Policy Pages Tell You

State Farm posts a page for each state with the exact policy form numbers behind its plans. In Georgia the series is 97037HGA, 97038HGA, 97039HGA, 97067GA, 97068GA and 97069GA, and Colorado uses a matching series ending in CO.

Rate language. The Colorado page says “Renewal premiums may increase periodically.” Ask your agent how your state’s premiums are set and when they change.

Wisconsin riders. The Basic policy can add riders for the Part A deductible, Part B excess charges, extra home health visits and foreign travel care with a $250 deductible and $50,000 lifetime cap.

Price history. NerdWallet’s 2026 review found State Farm premiums rose about 3.7% a year on average over three years, the lowest of the companies it reviewed.

Complaints and price. The same review, using NAIC data, found about 35% fewer complaints than average, but first-year prices ranged from among the cheapest to well above the lowest, depending on the city.

Tip: Write down your policy form number. It lets you look up the rate filing with your state insurance department later.

Getting a Fair Price on a State Farm Plan in 2027

1

Mark your enrollment window. In your six-month Medigap Open Enrollment Period, State Farm can’t turn you down or charge more for health reasons. Our open enrollment guide explains the dates.

2

Choose the plan letter first. Most new enrollees pick G or N. See our Plan G vs Plan N 2027 comparison.

3

Get the State Farm quote from a local agent. Ask for the monthly premium, the policy form number and how renewal rates are figured in your state.

4

Get at least two outside quotes. Because State Farm agents can’t show other carriers, compare the same plan letter from other companies yourself, including any household discount.

5

Budget for Part B. Your Part B premium is $202.90 a month in 2026 and projected at $209.50 for 2027. Add a separate Part D plan for drugs.

Bottom Line

State Farm is a sound choice for Plan G or Plan N if you like working with a local agent and its price is competitive in your ZIP code. It has an A+ rating, slow recent rate growth and few complaints, but no household discount and no sales in five Northeast states. Get its quote, then compare two other carriers before you sign.
