Medico Medicare Supplement Plans 2027: Plans, Ratings and Discounts

Reviewed by Russell Noga, Licensed Medicare Insurance Broker (all 50 states) — Last updated October 27, 2026

Medico Medicare Supplement plans are underwritten by Medico Insurance Company, a Wellabe company with an A (Excellent) AM Best rating. Medico sells Plans A, F, G, N and the two high-deductible plans in about 28 states, and it offers a household discount.

If you have seen the Medico name on a quote or an old policy, you may also have seen the name Wellabe. They are the same family of companies. Wellabe is the parent brand, and Medico Insurance Company is the company that actually issues many of its Medicare Supplement policies. This guide explains what Medico sells for 2027, what it costs to own, and how it stacks up.

Every Medicare Supplement plan with the same letter has the same benefits, no matter which company sells it. So the real questions are price, rate history and service. Who Is Medico? Medico and Wellabe Explained

Medico Medicare Supplement plan lineup for 2027 showing Plan G, Plan N, High-Deductible G and Plan A

Medico has sold health coverage to older Americans for many decades. Today it is part of Wellabe, an insurance group based in Des Moines, Iowa. Wellabe says it has provided insurance since 1929. Wellabe used to be known as American Enterprise Group, and in recent years its Medicare Supplement plans have been marketed under the Wellabe name instead of Medico.

The policy itself is still issued by a Medico company. Wellabe’s own brochure lists Medico Insurance Company as the underwriter, and its news releases also name Medico Corp Life Insurance Company and Medico Life and Health Insurance Company. So if your paperwork says Medico and the website says Wellabe, nothing is wrong.

Parent company. Wellabe, Inc., based in Des Moines, Iowa (formerly American Enterprise Group).

Underwriter. Medico Insurance Company and related Medico companies, depending on the state.

Financial strength. AM Best affirmed Wellabe’s A (Excellent) rating with a stable outlook in May 2025, the fifth year in a row.

Medico Medicare Supplement Plan Letters for 2027

Medico keeps its lineup simple. It sells the plans most people actually buy, and skips the rarely used letters. Plan availability can still vary by state, so check your ZIP code before you apply.

Plan What You Pay in 2027 Who It Fits
Plan G Only the Part B deductible (projected $292) Most new enrollees who want low out-of-pocket costs
Plan N Part B deductible, up to $20 office copays, up to $50 ER copays, and Part B excess charges People who want a lower premium and see the doctor less
High-Deductible G Costs up to the $3,050 deductible, then nothing more for covered care Healthy people who want the lowest premium
Plan A Part A deductible, Part B deductible and more People who want basic coverage only
Plan F and High-Deductible F Plan F: nothing for covered care Only people eligible for Medicare before January 1, 2020

2027 Part B deductible is the Medicare Trustees projection; CMS announces the final figure in November.

Broker tip: Plan G pays the same benefits at Medico as it does at any other company. If a Medico Plan G quote is lower than another company’s Plan G, you are not giving up coverage. Compare price and rate history instead. Our Medicare Supplement Plan G 2027 guide covers the details.

Where Medico Sells and How Underwriting Works

Medico Medicare Supplement plans are sold in about 28 states, with most of its business in the Midwest and South. Because the list changes over time, the fastest way to know if Medico is open in your area is to run a quote with your ZIP code.

In September 2024, Wellabe added new plan options in 15 states and began using accelerated underwriting. In many cases, that means some applicants can be approved within minutes without long health questions. Outside your Medigap Open Enrollment Period or a guaranteed issue right, you may still have to answer health questions.

No waiting period. Wellabe’s brochure says its plans have no pre-existing condition waiting period.

Guaranteed renewable. Your policy can’t be canceled as long as you pay your premium on time.

30-day free look. You can return the policy within 30 days for a refund of premiums paid, minus any claims paid.

Medico Discounts and Extras

Medico Medicare Supplement pros and cons for 2027

Medico’s best-known money saver is its household discount. According to Wellabe’s brochure, you may qualify if you live with another person age 50 or older, even if that person does not buy a Wellabe policy. Rules vary by state, and in Kentucky the other person only needs to be 18 or older.

Household discount. Live with someone age 50+ and you may pay less. The exact amount depends on your state.

Preferred rates. Non-tobacco users may qualify for lower preferred rates in many states.

Bank draft savings. Paying by automatic bank withdrawal can lower your cost.

Dental rider. An optional dental rider is offered in Arizona, Delaware, Michigan, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee.

Medico does not advertise a gym membership or vision benefit with its Medicare Supplement plans. If extras like those matter to you, compare them side by side before you choose. Remember that a small perk is rarely worth paying a higher premium every month.

Medico Pros and Cons Compared to Other Companies

Pros Cons
A (Excellent) AM Best rating for the Wellabe group Sold in only about 28 states
Household discount with easy rules (live with someone 50+) Fewer plan letters than some larger companies
Accelerated underwriting can mean fast approvals Few extra perks such as fitness or vision
Optional dental rider in six states The Medico and Wellabe names can confuse buyers

Large national companies such as Mutual of Omaha are often sold in more states and offer more plan letters. Medico tends to compete on price in the states where it sells. The only way to know who is cheaper for you is to compare rates for your exact age, gender, tobacco status and ZIP code.

Watch out: Your first-year price is only part of the story. Ask how a company’s rates have changed over the last few years in your state before you lock in.

How to Buy a Medico Medicare Supplement Plan

1

Check your timing. Your six-month Medigap Open Enrollment Period starts the month you are 65 or older and enrolled in Part B. During that window, you can’t be turned down for health reasons.

2

Pick your plan letter. Most people compare Plan G and Plan N. Our Plan G vs Plan N comparison shows the trade-off.

3

Compare quotes in your ZIP code. Look at Medico next to other companies for the same plan letter. Ask about the household discount.

4

Apply with a licensed agent. Medico does not offer online quotes, so you buy through a licensed agent at no extra cost to you.

5

Keep Part D in mind. A Medicare Supplement plan does not cover drugs, so add a separate Part D plan if you need one.

Bottom Line

Medico, now part of Wellabe, is a solid choice for Plan G or Plan N if it sells in your state. It has an A (Excellent) AM Best rating, a simple household discount and fast underwriting. Compare its rates in your ZIP code against other top companies before you decide.
