Blue Cross Blue Shield Medicare Supplement Plans 2027: Plans, Costs and How to Compare

Reviewed by Russell Noga, Licensed Medicare Insurance Broker (all 50 states) — Last updated October 11, 2026

Blue Cross Blue Shield is one of the most trusted names in Medicare Supplement insurance, but there isn’t one national Blue Cross Medigap plan. Blue Cross Blue Shield is a group of independent companies, and each one sells its own Medicare Supplement plans, with its own rates, in its own states.

The benefits are the same everywhere. A Blue Cross Medicare Supplement Plan G pays exactly the same benefits as Plan G from any other company, because Medigap plans are standardized by federal law. What changes from one Blue to the next, and from Blue Cross to other carriers, is the price.

Blue Cross Blue Shield Medicare Supplement Plans for 2027

Most Blue Cross companies sell the plan letters people buy most often. Availability depends on the company and state:

  • Plan G. The most comprehensive plan for anyone new to Medicare. You pay only the Part B deductible, $283 in 2026, and Plan G pays the rest of your Medicare-approved costs.
  • Plan N. A lower premium in exchange for copays of up to $20 for some office visits and up to $50 for emergency room visits. See our Medicare Supplement Plan N 2027 guide.
  • High Deductible Plan G. The same benefits as Plan G after a $2,950 deductible in 2026, for a much lower premium.
  • Plan F. Available only if you were eligible for Medicare before January 1, 2020.

The 2027 Part A and Part B deductibles are announced by CMS in the fall. The 2026 Medicare Trustees Report projects a 2027 Part B deductible of $292.

What Blue Cross Medigap Plans May Include

The core benefits are set by federal law. Beyond those, what you get depends on the Blue Cross company and state:

  • Any doctor that accepts Medicare. No networks and no referrals, anywhere in the country.
  • A household discount may be available when two people in the same home enroll.
  • Member discounts through Blue365 on things like fitness, vision and hearing products, depending on the company.
  • A fitness program may be included with some Blue Cross Medigap plans.

Medigap plans don’t include prescription drug coverage, so you’ll need a separate Part D plan. Not all plans offer all benefits.

What Blue Cross Blue Shield Plan G Costs in 2027

Each Blue Cross company files its own Medigap rates with the state, so a Blue Cross Plan G in Texas is priced differently from one in Ohio. Your premium depends on your age, ZIP code, gender and tobacco use.

For context, the national average Plan G premium was about $180 a month in 2026 for a 65-year-old woman who doesn’t smoke, according to ValuePenguin, and Plan G rate increases averaged 16.8% across the industry in 2026, according to Telos Actuarial. See our full breakdown of Medicare Supplement Plan G cost in 2027.

Because every Plan G pays the same benefits, compare Blue Cross against other carriers in your ZIP code. The lowest premium with a steady rate history is usually the best buy.

Who Blue Cross Blue Shield Medigap Fits

A good fit if you:

  • Want a well-known local insurer behind your Medigap plan
  • Already have Blue Cross coverage and want to stay with the same company
  • Can use a household discount with a spouse or partner
  • Are in your Medigap Open Enrollment Period

Look harder at other options if you:

  • Find a lower Plan G premium from another carrier in your ZIP code
  • Live in a state where your local Blue doesn’t sell the plan letter you want
  • Want the lowest possible premium, where Plan N or High Deductible Plan G may cost less

Before You Enroll: 2027 Checklist

  1. Find your Blue. The Blue Cross company that sells Medigap depends on your state.
  2. Pick your plan letter. Plan G, Plan N and High Deductible Plan G are the most common choices.
  3. Compare the same letter across carriers. Benefits are identical, so price is the difference.
  4. Ask about the pricing method. Attained-age, issue-age and community-rated policies age very differently.
  5. Ask about household discounts. They vary by company and state.
  6. Add a Part D plan. Compare all Medicare Supplement plans for 2027 alongside your drug coverage.

Blue Cross Blue Shield Medicare Supplement 2027 — Frequently Asked Questions

➤ Does Blue Cross Blue Shield offer Medicare Supplement plans?

Yes. Most of the independent Blue Cross Blue Shield companies sell Medicare Supplement plans in their own states. The company you buy from depends on where you live, such as Anthem in 14 states, Florida Blue in Florida or Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas in Texas.

➤ Is Blue Cross Plan G the same as Plan G from other companies?

Yes. Medigap benefits are standardized by federal law, so a Blue Cross Plan G pays exactly the same benefits as Plan G from any other insurance company. The premium, rate increase history, discounts and customer service are what differ.

➤ How much does Blue Cross Blue Shield Plan G cost in 2027?

Each Blue Cross company files its own rates by state, so there is no single price. For context, the national average Plan G premium was about $180 a month in 2026 for a 65-year-old woman who doesn’t smoke. Your price depends on your state, age, ZIP code and tobacco use.

➤ Which Medicare Supplement plans does Blue Cross Blue Shield sell?

Most Blue Cross companies sell the most popular plan letters, including Plan G and Plan N, and many also offer High Deductible Plan G and Plan A. Plan F is available only to people eligible for Medicare before January 1, 2020. Not every company sells every plan letter.

➤ Can I use Blue Cross Medicare Supplement out of state?

Yes. A Medicare Supplement plan works with any doctor or hospital in the United States that accepts Medicare, so your Blue Cross Medigap plan goes with you when you travel.

➤ Does Blue Cross Blue Shield Medigap include extra benefits?

Some Blue Cross companies may include extras such as a fitness program or member discounts through Blue365, depending on the company and state. Medigap plans do not include prescription drug coverage, so you need a separate Part D plan.

➤ Does Blue Cross Blue Shield offer a household discount on Medigap?

Many Blue Cross companies offer a lower premium when two people in the same household enroll, but discounts vary by company and state. Ask about household discounts when you compare quotes.

➤ When is the best time to buy a Blue Cross Medicare Supplement plan?

Your Medigap Open Enrollment Period, the six months starting the month you are 65 or older and enrolled in Part B. During that window, a Blue Cross company can’t deny you coverage or charge you more because of your health.

➤ Can I switch from Blue Cross Medicare Advantage to a Blue Cross Medicare Supplement?

Yes, but outside your Medigap Open Enrollment Period or a guaranteed issue right, the company can usually ask health questions. Your Medicare Advantage plan ending, such as a non-renewal for 2027, can give you a guaranteed issue right.
