Anthem Medicare Supplement Plans 2027: 14 States, Real Rates and What We Verified

Reviewed by Russell Noga, Licensed Medicare Insurance Broker (all 50 states) — Last updated October 29, 2026

Anthem Medicare Supplement plans are sold by Elevance Health’s Blue Cross Blue Shield companies in 14 states, and for 2027 they include Plans A, F, G and N, with Medicare SELECT and Innovative versions in some states. Anthem is not the low-price leader everywhere: in Nevada’s state premium guide, its Plan G was among the most expensive of 14 companies.

Anthem is a household name in the states where it carries the Blue Cross Blue Shield logo. That name recognition is why many people ask for Anthem first when they turn 65. The question this page answers is narrower: what does Anthem actually sell for 2027, which company stands behind your policy, and how does its price look next to other insurers in an official state rate guide?

We checked Anthem’s own state pages, the Kentucky and Nevada insurance department guides, and AM Best’s latest rating action. If you want the wider Blue Cross picture, including the Blues that are not part of Anthem, see our Blue Cross Blue Shield Medicare Supplement plans 2027 guide.

Anthem's Price in an Official State Rate Guide

Anthem Medicare Supplement Plan G annual premium compared with other companies in the Nevada Division of Insurance guide

Nevada’s Division of Insurance publishes a premium comparison guide. Its figures come from a September 2024 survey of annual premiums for a 65-year-old and a 70-year-old woman who does not smoke, living in ZIP code 89102 in Las Vegas. Anthem sells there through Rocky Mountain Hospital and Medical Service, Inc.

Company (Nevada guide) Plan G at 65 Plan G at 70 Plan N at 65
Monitor Life Insurance Co. of New York $1,885 $1,885 $1,427
CIGNA Insurance Company $1,916 $2,219 $1,461
UnitedHealthcare Insurance Co. $2,326 $2,555 $1,918
Humana Benefit Plan of Illinois $2,644 $2,738 $1,852
Rocky Mountain Hospital and Medical Service (Anthem) $3,531 $4,141 $2,724
Guarantee Trust Life Insurance Co. $4,044 $4,299 $3,113

Annual premiums, Nevada Division of Insurance Medicare Supplement Premium Comparison Guide (September 2024 survey). Selected rows; the guide lists 14 Plan G sellers. Anthem’s rates are attained-age.

In that guide, Anthem’s Plan G at age 65 cost about $294 a month, while the lowest-priced Plan G was about $157. Only one company was higher. Anthem’s rate also climbed $610 a year between age 65 and 70 because it uses attained-age pricing. One state is not the whole story, and Anthem is more competitive in some other markets, but it shows why you should never assume the best-known name is the cheapest.

What We Verified About Anthem Medicare Supplement (October 2026)

Here is what we could confirm from primary sources. Rows we could not source, such as a national rate history, are left out on purpose.

Item What we found Source
Parent company Elevance Health, Indianapolis (renamed from Anthem, Inc. in 2022) Elevance Health
Who issues the policy A local Anthem Blue Cross company. Examples: Anthem Health Plans of Kentucky; Rocky Mountain Hospital and Medical Service, Inc. in Nevada Kentucky DOI 2026 guide; Anthem Nevada page
Financial strength A (Excellent) for Elevance’s core Blue Cross Blue Shield companies AM Best, December 12, 2025
States CA, CO, CT, GA, IN, KY, ME, MO, NV, NH, NY, OH, VA, WI Anthem state pages
Plan letters in Kentucky A, F, Innovative F, G, N, plus SELECT F, Innovative F, G and N Kentucky DOI 2026 guide
Household discount About 10%, when you live with a spouse (rules vary by state) NerdWallet 2026 review
Extras SilverSneakers; optional dental or dental-and-vision packages in some states Anthem Nevada and California pages

Checked October 2026. Plan letters, discounts and extras differ by state.

Why it matters: Your policy is a contract with the local Anthem company named on the application, not with Elevance Health. That local company files its own rates with your state.

Medicare SELECT and Innovative Plans at Anthem

Two Anthem options confuse a lot of shoppers. Both appear in Kentucky’s 2026 list of approved plans.

Medicare SELECT. Same standardized benefits, but you must use network hospitals for non-emergency inpatient care. In exchange, the premium may be lower.

Innovative plans. A standard plan letter with extra benefits added on top, such as routine services Medicare does not cover. Kentucky lists an Innovative F and an Innovative G among Anthem’s SELECT plans.

What stays the same. Emergencies are covered at any hospital, and doctor visits still work with any provider that takes Medicare.

Broker tip: Before choosing a SELECT plan, look up which hospitals are in its network near you. If your preferred hospital is not on the list, the premium savings may not be worth it.

Anthem and Part D: The 2026 Change You Need to Know

Anthem Medicare Supplement 2027 members need Part D from another insurer after Elevance left stand-alone Part D

Elevance Health stopped selling stand-alone Part D prescription drug plans for 2026. That matters to Anthem Medicare Supplement buyers, because no Medicare Supplement plan sold today includes drug coverage.

1

Keep your Anthem supplement. Your Medicare Supplement policy is separate from Part D, so the Part D exit does not cancel it.

2

Pick a drug plan from another company. Use the yearly Medicare open enrollment window, October 15 to December 7, to choose a stand-alone Part D plan for 2027.

3

Check your pharmacy and drugs. Enter your prescriptions in the Medicare Plan Finder so the drug plan you pick covers what you take.

Who Anthem Fits, and Who Should Keep Shopping

Good fit. You live in one of the 14 states, want a Blue Cross card, value add-ons like SilverSneakers or dental packages, and Anthem’s quote is close to the field in your ZIP code.

Good fit. You live near a SELECT network hospital and want a lower premium for the same benefits.

Keep shopping. Anthem’s quote is far above other Plan G offers, as it was in the Nevada guide. The benefits are identical, so the extra cost buys you only the brand and extras.

Keep shopping. You care most about low lifetime cost. Attained-age pricing means the rate rises with each birthday.

California readers should also know about the state’s yearly birthday rule. See Medicare Supplement plans in California for 2027 for how it lets you switch plans.

Buying an Anthem Plan for 2027: Timing and Checks

1

Confirm Anthem sells in your state. If you are outside the 14 states, Anthem is not an option, even if your local Blue Cross plan is.

2

Ask which Anthem company issues the policy. Then ask whether its rate is attained-age, issue-age or community-rated.

3

Use your open enrollment window. In the six months after you are 65 and enrolled in Part B, Anthem cannot turn you down for health reasons.

4

Compare Plan G and Plan N side by side. In Nevada’s guide, Anthem’s Plan N was $807 a year less than its Plan G at 65. Check the Plan G vs Plan N 2027 math for your own doctor visits.

5

Line up Part D separately. Anthem no longer sells stand-alone drug plans, so choose one from another insurer.

Bottom Line

Anthem Medicare Supplement plans offer the familiar Blue Cross name, an A (Excellent) rated parent group, SELECT and Innovative options in some states and extras like SilverSneakers. Price is the weak spot in some markets, as Nevada’s official guide shows. Get Anthem’s quote and at least two others for the same plan letter before you decide.
