Accendo Medicare Supplement Plans 2027: Status, Ratings and Options

Reviewed by Russell Noga, Licensed Medicare Insurance Broker (all 50 states) — Last updated October 28, 2026

Accendo Medicare Supplement plans are issued by Accendo Insurance Company, a CVS Health company and Aetna affiliate rated A (Excellent) by AM Best. Accendo stopped taking new applications in at least 30 states in 2023, but existing policies stay in force, so most new buyers now compare Aetna’s main Medicare Supplement line instead.

Accendo was launched in 2020 as a second Medicare Supplement brand inside the Aetna and CVS Health family. It was known for sharp prices on Plan G and Plan F and a large household discount. Then, in 2023, Aetna began closing Accendo to new buyers state by state. If you own an Accendo policy, or you saw the name on an old quote, this guide explains where things stand for 2027.

The good news is that your coverage does not change. Every Medicare Supplement plan with the same letter has the same benefits, no matter which company sells it. The real questions are price, future rate increases and whether it makes sense to switch. If you are shopping new, start with our Aetna Medicare Supplement plans 2027 review, since those plans are still sold by the same parent company.

Who Is Accendo? Accendo, Aetna and CVS Health Explained

Accendo Medicare Supplement at a glance for 2027: CVS Health ownership, A Excellent AM Best rating, 14% household discount and 2023 closure

Accendo Insurance Company is part of the CVS Health family of companies and is an Aetna affiliate. Its Medicare Supplement plans first went on sale in March 2020. Agents who were already contracted with Aetna could sell Accendo without extra paperwork, and both brands used the same online application system.

Aetna sells its main Medicare Supplement line through several other companies, such as Aetna Health Insurance Company, Aetna Health and Life Insurance Company, American Continental Insurance Company and Continental Life Insurance Company of Brentwood, Tennessee. Accendo was a separate company with its own rates, which is why its prices were often different from an Aetna quote for the same plan letter.

Parent company. CVS Health, through its Aetna business.

Underwriter. Accendo Insurance Company issues the policy itself.

Financial strength. AM Best affirmed an A (Excellent) rating with a stable outlook for the Aetna Health and Life group, which includes Accendo, in June 2026.

Accendo Medicare Supplement Plan Letters

Accendo kept a short lineup built around the plans most people buy. If you already own one of these plans, your benefits are set by federal rules and do not change just because Accendo stopped selling new policies.

Plan What You Pay in 2027 Who It Fits
Plan G Only the Part B deductible (projected $292) People who want low out-of-pocket costs
Plan N Part B deductible, up to $20 office copays, up to $50 ER copays, and Part B excess charges People who want a lower premium and see the doctor less
Plan F Nothing for covered care Only people eligible for Medicare before January 1, 2020
Plans A and B Part B deductible and more; Plan A also leaves the $1,736 (2026) Part A deductible People who want basic coverage only

2027 Part B deductible is the Medicare Trustees projection; CMS announces the final figure in November. Plan letters offered varied by state.

Broker tip: An Accendo Plan G pays exactly the same benefits as Plan G from any other company. If you switch, you are trading price and rate history, not coverage. Our Medicare Supplement Plan G 2027 guide covers what Plan G pays.

Why Accendo Stopped Selling New Medicare Supplement Plans

In 2023, Aetna told agents it was closing the Accendo Medicare Supplement product to new applications in waves. The notices said the change would not affect existing policyholders. Aetna’s later agent product charts list its Medicare Supplement plans under its other companies, not Accendo. That suggests Accendo is closed to new buyers in most or all states, but always confirm with a ZIP code quote.

Date New Applications Ended States
April 28, 2023 Colorado, Georgia, Indiana, Iowa, Maryland, Nebraska, Rhode Island, Vermont, Wisconsin
May 2023 Arizona, Idaho, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas, Wyoming
June 28, 2023 Arkansas, California, Illinois, Kansas, Michigan, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Utah
July 28, 2023 New Jersey, North Dakota, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania

Your policy stays in force. Medicare Supplement plans are guaranteed renewable, so Accendo can’t cancel you as long as you pay your premium.

Benefits do not change. Your plan letter keeps the same standard benefits in 2027.

No new Accendo plans. In closed states you generally can’t move to a different Accendo plan letter.

Accendo Discounts and How They Compared to Aetna

Accendo Medicare Supplement household discount compared to Aetna's main Medicare Supplement line

Accendo’s best-known feature was its household discount. Agent materials described it as up to 14% in many states, which was higher than most carriers. Aetna’s main Medicare Supplement line has generally offered a smaller household discount, about 7% in most states and 5% in a few, based on its 2024 agent charts. Rules differ by state.

Feature Accendo Aetna Main Line
Owned by CVS Health (Aetna affiliate) CVS Health (Aetna)
AM Best rating A (Excellent), group rating A (Excellent), group rating
Household discount Up to 14% in many states About 7% in most states, 5% in some
Open to new buyers Closed in most or all states since 2023 Yes, in most states

Discount amounts and availability vary by state.

If you keep your Accendo plan, you keep whatever discount you were given when you bought it, as long as your state’s rules allow. If you switch to Aetna or another company, ask how its household discount works where you live.

Should You Keep or Switch Your Accendo Plan?

There is no rule that says you must leave a closed plan. Many people keep their Accendo policy for years. The main concern is price over time. When a company stops adding new members, the group of people on that plan gets older and smaller. That can lead to bigger rate increases than an open plan, though this is not guaranteed.

Keep it if… Your premium is still competitive and you have health issues that could make it hard to pass new health questions.

Shop around if… Your rate has jumped or you are healthy enough to answer health questions with another company.

Don’t cancel first. Never drop Accendo until a new policy is approved and in force.

Watch out: In most states, switching outside your Medigap Open Enrollment Period means answering health questions. Read can you change Medicare Supplement plans before you apply, and see our look at Plan G rate increases for 2027.

How to Compare Options If You Have Accendo

1

Check your current rate. Find your latest premium notice from Accendo and write down your plan letter and monthly cost.

2

Compare the same plan letter. Get Plan G or Plan N quotes from other companies, including Aetna’s main line. Our Plan G vs Plan N comparison shows the trade-off if you want a lower premium.

3

Ask about discounts. Household, non-tobacco and bank draft discounts can change which company is cheapest for you.

4

Answer health questions honestly. Apply with a licensed agent at no extra cost to you, and wait for approval.

5

Cancel Accendo last. Once your new plan is active, cancel your Accendo policy so you don’t pay for two plans.

Bottom Line

Accendo is a CVS Health company with an A (Excellent) AM Best group rating, but it closed its Medicare Supplement plans to new buyers in many states in 2023. If you own Accendo, your coverage continues in 2027, so keep an eye on your rates. If you are buying new, compare Aetna’s main line and other top companies in your ZIP code.
